Toll/Retail Application -Just the Tip of the 'Ice-Berg'

For 6 years Richard Easley, President of E-Squared Engineering, and other leaders in the Intelligent Transportation Systems industry have been sharing the vision of utilizing ITS technologies at fast food restaurants for purchases.  In April of 2000, that vision became a reality.  These photos were taken by E-Squared Engineering at the Rancho Santa Margarita and the Mission Viejo McDonald's restaurant locations.

When McDonald's researched locations to test the FasTrakô system, it was "only natural to use this store which is a quarter mile from the Foothill Toll Road, especially since there are 28,000 transponders in town." The Transportation Corridor Agency has over 140,000 FasTrakô accounts, which are pre-paid, and over 250,000 transponders in circulation. According to a  McDonald's Field Operations Manager,  McDonald's surveyed the vehicles using the Rancho Santa Margarita restaurant's drive-thru and noted that 70% of these customers had transponders.  For more details click on story on News page.

Below is the transponder reader at the pickup window where adjustments can be made if the order needs to be changed.
